In 1870 he invented a telegraphic code, which takes its name, the first truly digital, based on two states, ( "1" and "0", units that now call "bit". In perforated strips, a sign indicates a hole ( Logic 1 "), his absence a space (" 0 "logical). Baudot Each character consists of 5-bit and therefore are 32 different combinations available. gets his patent on June 17, 1874 (1)
